KTV price in Malaysia depends on the venue type, time of day, group size, and which state you are in. This guide explains what you are actually paying for and how to calculate the final bill.
The Two Pricing Models
Understanding what KTV is helps decode the pricing. There are two main models in Malaysia:
- Head charge (per person): Common at family karaoke venues. You pay per person for a set block of time. Add-ons such as food and drinks are charged separately.
- Minimum spend (per room): Used by KTV lounges. You commit to spending a minimum amount per room per session. The minimum typically covers a combination of a room booking, a bottle of spirits, and mixers.
How Head Charges Work
A typical family karaoke venue charges RM15–35 per person for a two-hour session on a weekday evening (prices as researched in September 2026 — verify with venues before visiting). Weekend and late-night rates are usually higher. Chains like Loud Speaker include free-flow soft drinks and ice cream in the session price. Red Box Karaoke prices its sessions separately from drinks.
What Minimum Spend Means
A minimum spend is a guaranteed minimum amount your group agrees to spend in the room. If the listed minimum is RM2,000 for a small room, your group must spend at least RM2,000 on food, drinks, and any extras — even if you only consume RM800 worth. The shortfall is still charged.
Minimum spends at KTV lounges in Malaysia vary widely. Based on third-party listings as of September 2026 (verify before visiting), a small room at a mid-tier lounge might start around RM1,000–2,000; large VIP rooms at premium venues can exceed RM6,000. These figures change frequently.
Service Charge and SST
Most KTV venues in Malaysia add:
- 10% service charge — goes to the venue (not the same as a tip to staff)
- SST (Service and Sales Tax) — currently 8% for most services (since 1 March 2024). Some venues apply 6% on food and non-alcoholic drinks and 8% on other items
A session advertised at RM30 per head becomes RM30 × 1.10 × 1.08 = approximately RM35.64 per head before food. Always ask for the "all-in price" or check the menu for "++" notation which signals service charge + tax on top.

How to Pay Less
- Go on a weekday — most chains offer lower rates Monday to Thursday, especially before 5pm.
- Early K sessions — venues like Loud Speaker offer a discounted "Early K" slot (typically 11am–1pm).
- Student and senior promos — Red Box and Loud Speaker both offer reduced rates for students and seniors aged 60+. Bring your student card or MyKad.
- Membership days — Loud Speaker has a Member's Day on Mondays.
- Group bookings — some venues shift to a flat room rate for larger groups, which can work out cheaper per head.
